I could not watch 'karthik calling karthik', but trust me i always wanted to watch it....my friends who saw the movie said that i am saved from the ordeal of insanity if i missed it. i have not watched it so cannot comment particularly on 'karthik calling karthik'.
I have been so involved with the subject psychology n psychotherapy. I wish if movies based on the concept of psychological diseases were made like- 'a beautiful mind', 'primal fear', 'silence of the lambs', '15 park avenue' .....i still can digest 'sangharsh' (coz of psychodelic ashutosh rana) but could not take the other movies showing schizophrenia (i.e. wo lamhe) big time waste!
To understand the intensity of a psychological ailment or disease, one has to understand the roots of disease, the seriousness, the physical as well as mental state of the patient and the raw form.
Here, we watch that even after serious attack of the disease, the patient (main lead, hero/heroin) is wearing make-ups and is dressed to kill..duh
A patient of schizophrenia shows the symtoms of stuttered speech, extremely low self confidence and talks sense once in a blue moon. But the bolywood ishtyle makes them linguistically superb, physically attractive and dramatically so self reliant. Why can't we see the patient like a patient, without the layers of make up concealing the artist. Why can't we get to see more konkonas (in 15 park avenue) who looks so much like a patient that even when she pukes or pees, looks god damn real and hurtful. u start hating the disease n pray that no one should ever get this.
I would not expect bollywood to be experts in psychological diseases or disorders or aberration. But if you make a movie on something, atleast get real.
